Bob Sutton offers us fifteen tips on workplace management. Most resonate with me. Especially these two:

3. In organizational life, you can have influence over others or you can have freedom from others, but you can’t have both at the same time. …

13. Err on the side of optimism and positive energy in all things.

But I don’t agree that “work is an overrated activity”. Or at least, not for everyone. I love what I do, and can’t believe that I get paid to do it.

  1. I agree with Owen but not for the same reasons necessarily. I think work is an intensely social activity and our desire to work (rather than fight, hunt etc)is deep-rooted even primal. We work for its own rewards (money, status, power, enjoyment etc.) but also because in doing so we commune socially thus filling a deep need.
