		<description>RonB - This was a posting about how the African leadership is getting its act together and demanding better governance from each other, not a commentary on US foreign policy.  We are quick to criticize Africans when we do not think they are doing enough; we should have the grace to recognise when they take the right stand.

But since you raise the point: what on earth did the US think it was doing giving military assistance to the Eyadema regime in Togo?  So much for the Administration&#039;s commitment to democracy and freedom. I do not see much to boast about in withdrawing assistance that should  not have been given in the first place.</description>
